So I'm not feeling great today, sore throat, etc., and I'm sad for a friend whose marriage is failing. So I admit to seeking out a bit of comfort food. And as I'm eating my reduced fat Wheat Thins with hummus, it hits me. I'm old. I'm really old. When did low fat crackers and whipped chick peas become my COMFORT FOOD? How did this happen?

I'm feeling the same way and had pb cup icecream. Now I wish it had been low fat crackers!
Shay,
I hope and pray that things get better for your friend and that you feel better soon. Chick peas, I always wondered what it was in that stuff. I'd be a bad Jew - don't like lamb or hummus.
If your friend is a Christian, have him/her check this out: http://www.wfil.com/ContentPages/2799/
You don't sound geritric at all - it sounds as though you're feeding your body well, and even your cravings have become healthier. I'm not being sarcastic when I say that I hope that someday I will consider whole grain crackers and bean dip to be comfort food
(I happen to despise chickpeas in all form, including hummus, but I do make this dip occasionally: http://shewearsmanyhats.com/2010/01/white-bean-spread/ )
