ADHD sucks

Remember those 'behold the power of cheese' ads from a few years ago? Picture what people did in those commercials to get the cheese, and you will have a picture of how E feels about fried shrimp. He has now had two complete meltdowns over fried shrimp. Once, at IHOP because they didn't have them. (He had them there once before when they were on the Specials menu.) Then again today, when they ran out of popcorn shrimp in the school cafeteria. I had a conference call with him, the school nurse, and guidance counselor because he was hysterical about not getting any shrimp. He kept sobbing that he just wanted to come home. I ended up going to get him fast food, which I gave to the counselor in the office without him seeing me. We agreed this was a one time only food delivery, but we're hoping that it will calm him down to the point that maybe he will tell her what is really going on with him. He's told me 2 or 3 times this week that he doesn't want to go to school anymore.

I'm pretty sure I'm just going to let him live with me until he's 47, because I swear I am making zero progress in turning this kid into an adult. Part of ADHD is difficulty in modulating emotions and problems dealing with disappointment. I have a feeling that counseling is in our future.

If anyone needs me I'll be hiding under my bed.

So sorry to hear that things are still so rough - I continue to pray for you & E.

(On a crazy side note, D happens to adore fried shrimp as well, and when we were in Corpus Christi last summer he had fried shrimp all 3 days for both lunch & dinner. When we got home and were reminiscing about all the fun stuff we did - including petting stingrays at the aquarium, touring a battleship with tons of big guns AND even a monster truck show, he announced that it was the best vacation ever because he got to eat fried shrimp ALL the time.)

Oh Shay. I am so sorry. I am actually bawling as I am typing this. (I am hormonal so that's part of it too). But I know your pain and frustration. It's on a different level. It's on a different subject too. But your pain is real. And don't get discouraged. You are doing a good job with E.

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9

Have you claimed a verse for E? Please share it so I can pray it specifically for him.

I love you, Sister!

I so needed that verse today, Theresa, thank you. I get so depressed and overwhelmed about this. I just want to help him and there are no easy answers.
I pray the 31 Virtues list of verses for all 3 of my kids, but I haven't picked a verse for Ethan. That's a good idea; I'll let you know.

oh geez that is hard. fried shrimp is good stuff, I can't blame him. I wonder what's going on at school, although, isn't it pretty typical for kids to hate school about this time of year, like its not fun anymore, and they keep increasing the demands? I noticed that Q gets more homework, has more tests and B HATES going to school now and fights me going. Thankfullly, though, its only two days a week.

Good point about this time of year, Kate, hadn't thought of that. They are gearing up for PSSAs too, which is torture. (Don't get me started on making kids with IEPs take PSSAs!) We only have Monday off, how did they get 3 days??

The school was out of apple juice for Red this morning - threw his whole morning off.

What a good mommy - to deliver shrimp!
